The Bevica Foundation and the Royal Academy have entered into a multi-year partnership, running until 2026, with the aim of promoting an inclusive human view in design and architecture. The collaboration focuses on integrating the principles of universal design into both research and teaching, and is supported by a grant of DKK 12.74 million from the Bevica Foundation.

Alice Ellen Moltke Ladekarl serves as project manager for this partnership at the Royal Academy. She is affiliated with the Business & Innovation Unit and plays a key role in coordinating and implementing initiatives that strengthen research and teaching in universal design. Her work helps ensure that architects and designers of the future develop solutions that are accessible and usable for all.

A concrete example of the partnership's work is the project “A place for all”, where students from the academy, in collaboration with volunteers from SUMH, designed and built a piece of furniture with a focus on universal design as well as social and green sustainability. This project illustrates how practical design solutions can promote inclusion and accessibility in society.

Through this partnership, the Bevica Foundation and the Royal Academy are working together to create a more inclusive future where design and architecture take diversity and accessibility into account, and where everyone has the opportunity to participate on an equal footing.

Universal design in architecture - the Nordic example in practice

Based on her new book Universal Design in Architecture, Camilla shared experiences and insights from conversations with 10 Danish and Norwegian architects about their understanding of universal design and the sensuous qualities of architecture.
