A playground for everyone

Two students from the Royal Academy have designed a playground where there is room for everyone. The inspiration came from the girl Saga, who at the age of nine suffered a brain haemorrhage and for a period was tied to a wheelchair during her rehabilitation.

In the podcast 'Sound Architecture and Design', students talk about both the challenges and opportunities of the project. They emphasised from the beginning on thinking accessibility into the design of the playground rather than adding disability-friendly solutions afterwards.

They stress the importance of their approach: “It is so important to tell children from an early age that there is room for them — no matter what their body looks like.”
