Podcasts

What we walk around with
In 'The Thing We Go Around With', the poet Caspar Eric takes a trip to the Danish country. He himself has Cerebral Palsy - a spastic paralysis that makes him limp, among other things, and so he has a somewhat ambivalent relationship with walking. But also to his body. And that is why he has now decided to go on a series of walks with some people who have a special relationship with their body in order to both become wiser about theirs and his own. For example, start with the episode where Caspar Eric goes for a walk with Kristian Moltke Martiny in Fællledparken. Listen to the podcast by clicking here.

The Purple Pound
Is there an economic business benefit to designing accessible goods and services? Evan Davis and guests discuss examples ranging from hair care products to hotel rooms. Listen to the podcast by clicking here.

Inkluderet: The Disability Equity Podcast

A podcast from the Johns Hopkins University Disability Health Research Center that challenges stereotypes about how life is experienced by people living with a disability through conversations, stories, data and news. Listen to the podcast by clicking here.

Design for everyone

People have different needs, so one should not only design products and environments for the average human being. Just a single flight of stairs can limit a human being with a physical disability. This is where architects, designers and universal design come into the picture. At KADK, a group of architecture and design students work with universal design and accessibility. But why do they do it? Can we possibly design products and environments for all kinds of people? What is the concept of universal design? We talk more about that in the first episode of Design for All. Listen to the podcast by clicking here.

The Fair City AKB, Lundtoftegade develops the city's common space and transcends boundaries with social responsibility, solidarity and participation? Get a glimpse of urban strategic development by listening to the live recording of the debate in the residents' house at Folkemødet 2021. Listen and watch the live recording by clicking here.

TEDTalks

How architecture can create dignity for all

From a combination of professional basis and everyday situations, architect John Cary argues in his TEDTalk why Universal Design is a powerful tool for creating dignity for underrepresented groups. Cary encourages listeners to think about who gets left out when design teams are homogeneous. Watch John Cary's TEDTalk by clicking here.

Why We Need Universal Design

Michael Allen Nesmith, in his TEDTalk, strikes a blow for Universal Design as a broad and necessary tool in our everyday lives. He highlights the fact that, in different environments and times in our lives, we are all likely to experience a functional impairment - whether physical, cognitive, psychic or temporary. When we design for disability, we all benefit

“I believe that losing my hearing was one of the greatest gifts I've ever received.” According to Elise Roy, her hearing impairment provides a unique way to experience and reframe the world as a lawyer and design thinker - a perspective that could solve some of our biggest problems. In her TEDTalk, she stresses that when we first design for people with disabilities, “we often stumble upon solutions that are better than those designed according to the norm.” Watch Elise Roy's TEDTalk by clicking here.
