Leaving no one behind in danger: Ensuring the accessibility and usability of warnings, evacuation and shelters for people with disabilities during disasters and humanitarian emergencies
This project investigates how people with disabilities can be better included in emergency warning and evacuation systems during crises such as floods, fires, or terrorist attacks. It aims to identify the barriers disabled individuals face in accessing and responding to disaster communication, and explores how systems can be designed to be truly accessible and usable for all.
Mareike will conduct her research in collaboration with Libereco in Germany and Ukraine, learning directly from people with disabilities as well as emergency response professionals to help ensure that no one is left behind in danger.
