Leaving no one behind in danger: Ensuring the accessibility and usability of warnings, evacuation and shelters for people with disabilities during disasters and humanitarian emergencies

This project investigates how people with disabilities can be better included in emergency warning and evacuation systems during crises such as floods, fires, or terrorist attacks. It aims to identify the barriers disabled individuals face in accessing and responding to disaster communication, and explores how systems can be designed to be truly accessible and usable for all.

Marieke will conduct her research in collaboration with Collaborating4Inclusion (C4I) research program, attached to the University of Sydney’s impact Centre for Disability Research and Policy (CDRP).
