Danish Association of Architects

The Bevica Foundation has entered into a partnership with the Danish Association of Architects to support municipalities in developing local architecture policies. The aim is to strengthen municipalities’ knowledge of the societal significance of the built environment—and of how universal design can contribute to more inclusive buildings and urban spaces.

With the new five-year national initiative, the Danish Association of Architects will help many more municipalities develop local architecture policies that can support more sustainable urban development, well-being, and community.

The initiative, Architecture Policy in All Municipalities in Denmark, aligns directly with the new national architecture policy, which encourages municipalities to translate national ambitions into concrete actions close to citizens’ everyday lives.

A key recommendation in the national architecture policy is that universal design should be used as a tool to ensure that everyone, regardless of needs and circumstances, has dignified access to use architecture’s buildings and urban spaces.

Through its partnership with the Danish Association of Architects, the Bevica Foundation is therefore strengthening a strategic goal of promoting universal design in municipalities’ work with architecture and urban planning.

The project Architecture Policy for All Municipalities in Denmark” is anchored in the Danish Association of Architects and supported by Realdania and the Bevica Foundation. The initiative spans five years and includes, among other things:

  • Updated guides: “Municipal Architecture Policy – Why?” and “Municipal Architecture Policy – How?”
  • A digital knowledge hub featuring the latest cases, knowledge, and tools
  • Proactive dialogue and advisory support for municipalities
  • Networks for architects and planners in municipalities
  • Development of a dialogue tool for cross-sector collaboration
