Accessibility Award 2011

The Bevica Foundation has awarded Mayor Michael Ziegler, Høje-Taastrup Municipality the “Bevica Foundation Accessibility Award 2011”. The honoree was presented to Michael Ziegler by the chairman of the foundation, Børge Munk Ebbesen. The Accessibility Award is a new initiative by the Bevica Foundation, after the Foundation has been intensively focusing on and financially supporting accessibility promotion measures for a number of years.

In order to justify the election of Michael Ziegler, Børge Munk Ebbesen said, among other things: “Michael Ziegler has helped to focus on and create a new disability policy in Høje-Taastrup Municipality, based on equality, respect and the breaking down of barriers, thereby creating good conditions for people with disabilities and creating an understanding of how important these elements are for people with disabilities. A work which has set a precedent and has subsequently been followed by many other municipalities and institutions. In connection with the work of Danish Disability Organisations to identify a good geographical location for the organization's new head office, Høje-Taastrup Municipality quickly got on track, and the first sod for the house has been taken in Høje-Taastrup Municipality.

It has also been important for Michael Ziegler that the house, access conditions to the house and future recreational areas are a natural part of Høje-Taastrup's infrastructure.” The Bevica Foundation has also decided that the citizens of Høje-Taastrup Municipality will have the opportunity to have an impact on a relevant accessibility project through a commitment of DKK 100,000. Proposals will be called through the local media and a committee including Michael Ziegler as a member will select the final project. As mentioned, the project will be supported with DKK 100,000 from the Bevica Foundation.
