Universal design for learning

Associate Professor Louise Bøttger from Aarhus University introduces universal design for learning and shows how teaching can be adapted to a diversity of students. The paper provides concrete examples and principles for more inclusive learning environments.

Associate Professor Louise Bøttger (Aarhus University) presents Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and shows how teaching can be designed for a greater diversity of students. The paper introduces the three main principles of UDL and links the idea from universal design in architecture to learning design. With concrete grips—clear goals and expectations, multiple ways to engage, represent the fabric (text, audio, visual), and express learning—we show how to create inclusive learning environments from the outset for the benefit of all, including students with disabilities.
