Parasport Denmark

With parasport as the lever, the Bevica Foundation and Parasport Danmark want to create positive awareness of what the body can do when we create a level playing field, and show how knowledge about universal design can be a means to achieve a more inclusive society.

The prerequisites and setup of the parasport movement mirror the inequality that exists in society and that people with disabilities in may cases are not really equal to people without disabilities. But at the same time, parasport has tremendous potential to address inequality and demonstrate the value creation that parasport holds for society as a whole.

In connection with the 150th anniversary in 2022, the foundation asked Danish paraathlete Peter Rosenmeier to put into words the role that sport have played in his life. Here what he answered, in the video below:

The Paralympics in Paris in 2024 was subject to more positive attention and enthusiasm than we have ever seen before in Denmark.

At the same time, the enthusiasm of the population coincided with the UN's sharp criticism of Denmark of the political unwillingness to comply with the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD).

The fact is, that Parasport Danmark is allocated far less funding to support Paralympic athletes than their collegues from the Olympcs. Still, there is disparity in the possibility of participation in general sport and its communities for people living with a disability, which, in turn, effectively makes it more deficult to spot potential new para-athletes.

And so, the Bevica Foundation entered into a strategic cooperation with Parasport Danmark as a top partner in 2024.

The partnership sets out to seize the ball from the president of the International Paralympic Committee, who, on the occasion of the opening of the PL in Paris 2024, proclaimed that precisely the Paralympics 2024 in Paris would be the start of an “Inclusion Revolution”.

for that to happen, continuous public conversation about ableism, universal design and the Paralympic effect has to happen. That partnership is determained to help that happen.
