Folkemødet

Folkemødet is not just a festival — it is a platform where democracy, conversation and the future of society are in focus. It's a democracy festival where politicians, business leaders, NGOs, citizens and government officials gather to discuss how we can best shape a more sustainable and inclusive society. And so, it is central that Folkemødet isfor everyone - regardless of their physical starting point.

The Bevica Foundation and Folkemødet have entered into an ambitious 5-year project collaborationwith the ambition to create a platform for everyone, and where universal design is the starting point.

The ambition behind the collaboration is to create an equal and democratic festival with room for all; where universal design becomes the basic principle, and with an inclusive view of the human.

Folkemødet brings together those who decide the framework of future socital development in conversation. Politicians, business leaders, NGOs, citizens, government officials and anyone with an interest in debating current trends, issues and how to create a sustainable society come together to discuss and develop ideas.

An advisory board will will continuously review the efforts of the partnership, as well as assess international efforts and ideas, and ensure professional knowledge about the implementation of universal design at Folkemødet. The Advisory Board consists of a representative from Folkemødet and the Bevica Foundation as well as other relevant parties, including the Association of Young People with Disabilities (SUMH).

“Although, of course, I encounter different challenges when I go to Folkemødet, I prioritize going year after year. I do this because I learn a lot at Folkemødet - not only about the world I live in, but also about myself. I gain experience in making my voice heard, and I am confirmed by the participants at Folkemødet that my voice is just as important as everyone else's. As a young person with a disability, you may sometimes have doubts about that."

- William Korte, President of the Association of Young People with Disabilities (SUMH)
"Young people with disabilities are to a lesser extent represented at Folkemødet for both professional, physical and social reasons. I have the opportunity to go there; and because of that, it's important for me that I use my voice to express the enormous potential that comes from diversity - in the world and at Folkemødet.”

- William Korte, President of the Association of Young People with Disabilities (SUMH)
