The Prime Minister inaugurates the newly restored Mønsted Kalkgruber

On Friday 1 September 2017, Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen will inaugurate Mønsted Kalgruber, which has just had buildings, railways and laid new trail systems. The DKK 28 million restoration project is a model example of good accessibility and at the same time ensures the pits as a modern tourist destination. The inauguration will take place at 11 a.m., and everyone is welcome.
The newly restored Mønsted Kalkgruber has, among other things, been given a new trail system that invites you to explore the unique landscape around the pits. The overall project of building restorations and landscape project has been developed in collaboration between Mønsted Kalkgruber, Bevica Fonden, Realdania and Schønherr Landskapsarkitekter and with support from a number of other foundations. In all parts of the project, accessibility is thought of from the beginning and as an architectural and landscape approach.
Chairman of the Board Claus Clausen says: “It is a great pleasure for us that the Prime Minister has agreed to participate in the inauguration of the new Mønsted Kalkgruber. We are incredibly proud of the result, which means that we have created a more modern tourist attraction that also provides space for even more guests than before.”
Torben Svanberg, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bevica Foundation, sees the new Mønsted Kalkgruber as an exemplary project in accessibility and equality: “Mønsted Kalkgruber is a model example of how well it can be done when accessibility for all is not just something you think about afterwards. Accessibility is considered from the beginning and throughout the project, and this is how equality is ensured for all. I
I hope that this is a project that other tourist destinations in Denmark can also be inspired by.” As part of the project, the parking area has been moved, so that guests are no longer forced to cross a busy road. In addition, a new and up-to-date visitor center has been built, which will be able to receive over 60,000 visitors annually, as well as a new cafe and an exhibition center have been installed in the former chalkade and manager's residence respectively.
The results of a strong collaboration Realdania's CEO Jesper Nygård highlight that the restoration has been carried out in a strong collaboration between the municipality, the state, foundations and local enthusiasts: “The very successful modernization of Mønsted Kalkgruber is a super good example of what can be achieved when we join forces and many people work together. Especially when it is rooted in a strong local commitment. Today, the great experience values of one of Denmark's most exciting cultural environments and tourist destinations are becoming much clearer. And is also made available to many more. I am proud that Realdania has been able to contribute to this.
