Bevica Scholarship Programme grand winner 2025: I look forward to delving deeper into how we can improve ageing together here in Denmark

Bushra Tellisi, a student from the Royal Academy, wins the Bevica Foundation Scholarship Programme's main prize of DKK 350,000 for her work investigating new pathways to age inclusion and universal design.
The Bevica Foundation has awarded the grand prize in the Bevica Scholarship Programme 2025 to architecture student Bushra Tellisi. The award is given in recognition of her professional ambitions and her project, which explores how international experiences can inspire more age-inclusive and universal solutions in Denmark.
In her project, Bushra works to understand and challenge existing practices in elder care and residential social settings. She explores how inclusive and cross-generational communities can drive increased participation, accessibility and quality of life in everyday life — across generations and levels of functioning.
“My project is about learning from intergenerational and inclusive environments — especially in Japan — and explore how they can promote aging in community rather than in isolation. My original plan was to go to Japan, but now I feel like I have to explore more places because I have won such an incredible amount of money,” reads the winner in the student category.
Bushra shares what being part of the Bevica Scholarship programme has meant and how it has inspired her thoughts on universal design.
“I've been given the opportunity to unfold ideas about universal design that I didn't expect I could develop. I look forward to delving deeper into how we can improve ageing together here in Denmark.”
With the grand prize, Bushra Tellisi will have the opportunity to both further develop her project and gather new knowledge through a research trip to Japan, where she will visit the initiatives and environments that inspire her work.
The journey will be a key second step in her journey and will provide insight into concrete design approaches and care models, which she will subsequently translate into a Danish context with a focus on universal design.
