Design and dialogue tool for the construction industry

A new design and dialogue tool should contribute to more inclusive design and better accessibility. The tool will be based on virtual reality technology.

The Royal Academy of Architecture, Design, Conservation is developing a design and dialogue tool to strengthen and qualify the dialogue between users, advisors and builders. It is about being able to test a building virtually before building the construction or initiating a renovation in the real world. And to record and save the response of the test user.

The Virtual Scenario Responder (VSR) tool will be able to test different scenarios, such as how construction will be experienced by a person using a wheelchair. In this way, it will be possible to test and improve accessibility early in the process and achieve a better end result.

The VSR tool will connect to the digital building models (BIM) already used in the construction industry. The VSR tool will be used as a test case in the establishment of the Gårslevhallen in Vejle, which is part of the Fitness for All project.

The VSR tool should be used to test how, for example, a wheelchair user will experience a construction. It should contribute to a more inclusive design and a building with equal access for all. Illustration: Anders Hermund.
