Space, Technology and Psychiatric Practice

Thorben Peter Høj Simonsen studies the spatial organisation of psychiatric practice. He has previously examined “healing architecture” as a contemporary concept in the development of future healthcare facilities, as well as how this concept, when translated into concrete and innovative architecture, shapes social interactions and organisational practices in psychiatric hospitals.

With in-depth knowledge of organisational processes and how they unfold in practice, he is particularly interested in how new technologies shape psychiatric practice and its spatial and relational organisation. His current focus is on the use of virtual reality (VR) in psychiatry, including how VR technologies create new opportunities and challenges for organisation, practice and relationships within the field of psychiatry.
