Inclusion Talks: Breaking the Frame - Museums as a space for inclusion through universal design ft. Janice Rieger

At this event, we focus on the role museums and cultural institutions play in relation to inclusion. Museums have a central role in shaping cultural narratives, yet many still exclude visitors who do not fit the idea of the traditional visitor.

Join us for the first in a series of talks held in collaboration with Copenhagen Architecture Forum (CAFx). Through a series of events under the headline Inclusion Talks: A Universal Design Perspective, we will explore and share stories about how we can collectively create truly inclusive spaces—spaces that rethink our shared environments and invite more people in.

At this first event, we welcome Dr. Janice Rieger, an internationally recognised expert and researcher in universal design. Rieger has been specially invited to Denmark by the Bevica Foundation and is a guest at the Universal Design Hub’s research network.

At the event, we focus on the role museums and cultural institutions play in relation to inclusion. Museums have a central role in shaping cultural narratives, yet many still exclude visitors who do not fit the notion of the traditional visitor.

In a conversation between Dr. Janice Rieger from the University of Technology Sydney, Louise Kæmpe Henriksen, curator at the new Viking Ship Museum, and the recipient of Bevica’s student travel grant under the Bevica Scholarship Programme 2025–2026, Camille Wenner from the Royal Danish Academy, we explore how universal design and co-design can be tools for creating more inclusive frameworks in museums and cultural spaces.

The talk is moderated by author and co-founder of In futurum, Moussa Mchangama.

All events will be turned into podcasts, creating multiple opportunities for participation and knowledge-building.
