Allowing for different paces – who gets to take their time in the educational system in Denmark?

The option to flexibly pursue an education in Denmark is limited and unequally distributed. While there are some instances where it is possible to pursue education parttime, vocational education in Denmark remains largely rigid in its time structure. In addition, research indicates that one of the central challenges faced by youth today is the pressure to constantly accelerate and keep pace with increasingly demanding educational expectations. This urgency is particularly pronounced for young people with disabilities; however, the accelerated pace affects everyone.

Naja Berg Hougaard would like to pursue the question about the universal need to slowing down and taking our time in educational contexts – and through a lens of (in)equality to pursue questions about who gets to take their time and who doesn’t when it comes to learning.
