The Dichotomies of Fashion
Marcus A. Wilmont poses the following problem statement: Can I use Universal Design Theory to develop new educational tools or teaching activities for the Royal Danish Academy’s Master's programme in Fashion, Clothing, and Textile, in order to strengthen students’ understanding of form-giving in relation to diverse abilities, representation, diversity, and inclusion?
To explore this question, Marcus visited Bunka Fashion College in Japan, as well as Parsons School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in the United States.
His aim was to engage with students, educators, and experts in the field, and to challenge the status quo in fashion education. Through a series of innovative workshops and projects grounded in Universal Design, Marcus sought to inspire students to look beyond systemic barriers and reimagine fashion through a more inclusive lens.
In the video below, he shares the key outcomes of his project.
