Creating Neuro-inclusive Learning Spaces: Addressing Autism Spectrum Condition Students Inclusivity in Higher-education through Generative Artificial Intelligence and Augmented and Immersive Reality Technologies
This proposal addresses the increasing number of neurodivergent students in higher education and the need for more neuro-inclusive learning environments that address current classroom neurodiversity.
Luis Santos seeks to explore how augmented and immersive reality technologies can enhance the educational experience and inclusivity for students with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) by reshaping classroom spaces, expanding the existing pedagogical toolset, and adapting existing curricula to better support neuro diversity in higher education, particularly in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math(STEM) as well as in Design programs.
His research will take place in both the UK and the US, including at the Salvesen Mindroom Research Centre, the Centre for Research in Inclusion at the University of Southampton, Stanford’s Virtual Human Interaction Lab, and UC Berkeley’s Vision and Perception Lab and XR Lab.
